Just got my new 3G iPhone and absolutely loving it!!

I found this very useful process for turning chunks of non DRM music on your iPhone into ringtones. I just tried it – it couldn’t be easier!! The only bit I’d change is right near the end when it says to drag and drop the new ringtone into your library. That didn’t work for me, but when  created a folder in my iTunes library called ringtones, moved the file there, then added that to my ringtones library, it worked fine.

Now all I need to work out is how to import all of the contacts off my orange SIM card into my iPhone. Anyone know how?

I know that I’ve posted a similar one to this before, but I really like the different visualisations shown on here. I just wish that you could click through to a template for each one!

On Sunday, I went to ‘Apple Day’ at Shenley Park. This is the site of a stately home, turned mental hospital, now private accommodation and public parkland. What a fabulous place it is.

When I got there, it was sunny and the leaves on the trees looked like the finest painting of an autumnal landscape that you could imagine.

Apple day is all about celebrating the many vintage varieties of apples that grow in the Orchard within the park. There was a huge central area set out with lots of boxes, one for each variety. There must have been at least 30. I tried at least half of them and decided that my favourite was the Claigate Permaine. My wife liked Mrs Philmore best, so we bought a bag of each. I wish we’d bought more now.

The flavour and texture of these apples is unlike anything I’ve ever bought in a shop. They are super crisp, the favour is incredibly intense, and just leaves you wanted more. My tastebuds are getting a real workout! I think that when I eat the next one, I may have to try planting the seeds (although I don’t think I can wait that long for some more). If nmore people could eat these apples (which are lumpy, bumpy, with skin blemishes but taste divine), they’d never look at a Granny Smith or Golden Delicious again. The apple trees are producing bumper crops this year – let’s see more locally produced apples in our fruit & veg shops (and supermarkets!)

The senior commercial bankers know a lot more about the reliability and liquidity of the financial markets than we do. They don’t trust each other at all. Yet, they expect us to continue to trust them. What’s wrong with this picture…..?

A few days ago, I rang Congestion Charging London to check if the form I had filled out for my wife’s exemption had been received. I was asked if I was a named and authorised contact on the form. I said that I was her husband, and had filled in most of the form. I knew our car registration number forwards and backwards etc. I was told that they had to check with my wife before they could speak to me.

I started to lose my cool. All I wanted was to know if a form had arrived that I had sent. I didn’t want to know what was on the form or anything remotely more personal. I could almost here the slightly monotonous drawl intone “Computer says nooooooo”.

At this point, I gave up and ended the call rather abruptly. I have exactly the same issue with a whole range of bills and communications from various institutions who will only take one contact name, and when that is my wife’s, steadfastly refuse to speak to me about anything.

It was soon after this, that I read about the idiot at Marks and Spencer who refused to speak to a seven year old’s mother, unless the seven year old gave permission first. What is the world coming to?
